If you follow the progress of this band, you will never guess that they will achieve a song composition of this quality. Especially if you prefer husky deep bass vocals or high pitch long stretched vocals. yes many have been influenced by the akademi fantasia / american idol propaganda which shouts how vocal talent is standardized through just one stream of measure and unique sounds is never appreciated. if you are one of the victims of commercial influence, then this band is not for you. these guys instilled confidence in what they already have and does not wish to be like any other band.
Thus it is a well thought decision to include their own strength while ignoring false ambitions of imitating already famous and successful bands. So what impressed me with this song is how far better it is from their previous singles. Their past efforts was to me perceived to be generally accepted by those who are fans and followers but not new listeners. (just an expression of the standard). It's one of those tracks that needs you to listen to it a few more times for you to get the hang of the melody before you can actually start to appreciate.
The track GELAP did not drift away from their mellow poetic fashion or their unique vocals or the simple catchy clean riffs. What they did was they focused on what they have mastered is which is the tweeked vocals, typical mellow chords and deep lyrics while exploring certain modification of reverbs in riffs and spot-on timing of closed high hat combination with kick drums. the duration of the build-up was quite short but well presented with crash sounds coming in just in time when the first note of the chorus hit your eardrums.
STATIK's brilliance silenced speculations on the possibility of indie scene coming to its end. You haven't seen nothing yet!
